I agree, and I've read his online article and viewed his video on the subject (which, if memory serves, used Live Mesh beta at the time to synchronize files between his local machine running EW and his server running Wordpress), which were created before the book was written, but I have not read the book since he wrote it.
As noted, it does require more than a passing familiarity with HTML and CSS, and somewhat of PHP, to understand and apply this approach. OTOH, the OP did seem in his post to be prepared to undertake the learning process, so IMO it was quite appropriate to suggest it as a response to his post.
